| Guessing about the Starting Rotation is one thing, but when only 2 or 3 position players return and everyone else in the lineup wasn’t here last year, well thats when this gets to be impossible. Still that won’t stop our crack staff at The Empty Keg to guess at USF’s starting position players for 2008. I should have the real lineups by next week. As a coincidence, Coach Lelo Prado is speaking at a local function where I’ll be in attendance, so I’ll be sure to get the skinny on the lineup. Here we go and as always, Go Bulls!!
Catcher- Trey Manz, Jr.- Transfer from Chipola CC where he batted .315 and had 9 HRs and 50 RBIs. Manz should be the starter, but other options would be Cory Johnson and Andrew Longley. First Base- Charles Cleveland, Sr.- I’ll give the nod to one of the few returning players. Could end up at DH. If so, look for Brandon Smith to play and possibly platoon with him in a righty/lefty scenario. Ryan Garcia and Todd Brazeal are other options at 1B. Second Base- Dexter Butler, Sr.- This is just about the only player I feel comfortable writing in ink as opening day player. Backups are Freshmen Jonathon Koscso or Jordan McGillis. Shortstop- Addison Maruszak, Jr.- Judging from the roster on GoUSFBulls.com it shows him as a SS, even though I think he’s better suited for 3B. Third Base- Victor Pina, Soph.- Only other infielder listed on the roster, so he should be safe. Outfield- Joey Angelberger, Sr.- One of this team’s few returning lettermen. Should start somewhere in the OF. Outfield- Ryan Lockwood, R Fr.- Gator transfer, should find a home in the starting OF rotation. Outfield- Brian Hobbs, Jr.- My guess as the 3rd starting OF or DH. Reserve Outfielders- Mike Consolmagno, Ian MacGeorge, Chris Rey, Todd Brazeal, Brandon Smith, Juan Carlin. |
